Cooking School Day 1

Today, me, Tilly and William went to Cooking School. The ladies were Sally and Sonja. “Today,” said Sally, “the oven isn’t working. So we are going to have to risk making pasta. Luckily, we have three mini boilers and a pan each for your groups. Risking is hard, by the way, so we need to do big work! Who can do that?”

Under each of our tables, we had a big box of equipment. Ella took out a cup and a bowl, I got a wooden spoon and a garlic crush. Joshuamino got a mixer (I don’t know why because we didn’t need or use it) and a few carrot peelers (he has this thing wrong with him when he picks wrong equipment and ingredients, so his things weren’t too useful).

We chopped up some garlic and onions and put them in a bowl. Then we ripped up some bazil and put it in the same bowl. We stirred it and then tipped a little bit of it into our pan. Then we waited till it started going ‘sizzle sizzle sizzle sizzle’ and then we tipped the whole thing in. It went ‘sparky spark’. Joshuamino and me both got burnt and the part of our skin went a bit stick-uppy, but we put it under freezing cold water and it went normal again. Sonja said she had done that before. It really hurt.

Then we tipped two tins of tomato sauce in the pan. “Wee goes the baked beans,” said Joshuamino, even though it was tomato sauce. “Weirdo,” said Annie, scraping a bit more tomato into the pan.

Then, we all put our lids on our pans. While it was cooking, we got some fruit and balsamic vinegar. We put it in metal, floppy foil and wrapped it up. Then we took a plate and a spoon and we ate some. It was just SO delicious! Then we went home and ate our pudding by the car.

At the end, Sonja and her helper Stan gave us a bag at the end. Inside, there was a bag of oats, flour and butter – but no sugar! You want a cake to taste weird? Weirdo! ‘Cause I don’t. They gave us some tinned apple to cook it in with. Stan kept popping up from Sonja’s chair and scaring her! “Wooo! Boo! Hahahahahah!” and he did cruel laughs. “Waa! Stan, I wish I could call you Stab! You – you – STABBER!” When we got home, we started making our Apple Crumble as soon as possible. We massaged the flour, oats and butter and added a bit of sugar. There was so much of it that we ate it for pudding and for breakfast this morning!

William wrote about it too.
