A Happy New Weekend!

Well, it’s Monday now, so yesterday, on Sunday, we went to Wrest Park to listen to some Audio Guides. Do you know what they are? The things we had at Stonehenge? With the numbers on them, and you press the numbers when it says to? And there’s a man or a lady talking and telling you about where you are and what it is? I suppose you remember now…

Nanny came too. First we had a small picnic and then all us three children (it was Sunday, so William was here) went up to a big hill to play games on and roll down. Then we got our Audio Guides out and went up to the Mansion Terrace, where a man talked through the little helpful Guide (he was the Gardener three hundred and something something years ago – of course he’s still not alive, but chop off his leg and count how many rings there are!) telling us all about the Mansion Gardens.

Do you know who lived here in Wrest Park – in this very mansion? The Earl De Greys, of course! Lady Jemima, oh, a beautiful and most wonderful lady, and…hmm, I think there was a Thomas Earl De Grey, and I can’t remember the other, but yes, they were some very nice and rich people. They loved building statues, fountains, and little buildings. The mansion that is here now didn’t used to be there when that gardener was around, and neither was the fountain. The fountain used to be a mansion, that mansion got knocked down and was replaced with the fountain and then there was that other mansion that’s around now that they built instead of the other one*.

There was a wedding fair in the mansion. I was very pleased because 1 we weren’t expecting it, and 2 we could see all of the wedding cakes and dresses, not to mention the posh limo cars…

The cars were 83 years old, the limos were, and it was a Ford. It was a small limo, no fridge or anything because it was so old, but then the pretty ribbons and flowers, it was lovely. The steering wheel was shiny, polished wood and the seats where posh and clean beige leather, and the wind-screen wipers came down from the top – not from the bottom.

On Saturday, we went for a bike ride in the Country Park near Nanny’s new house. It was fun. We went round at least 4 or 5 times and then we played on the zipwire and on the wooden obstacles, not missing out on the cool maze everyone was cheating in.

When we got to the car we picked some blackberries and popped them in our mouths (but mostly in our water bottle container)…

For pudding, we made an apple and blackberry crisp-pie-crumble-thing! ;P By the way, that face meant yum yum and a wink. Look closely.

*Pant, pant, pant, that was a long sentence, pant, pant…
