We went to Wrest Park with Caitlin, Rebecca and Hannah (Rebecca and Hannah were Tilly’s Guides friends. Input about Guides: a club. Wow). We went there to do this Halloweeny murder quest. It was about a lady who was extremely rich called Lady Mary. She came to the Earl De Greys’ house, which was the mansion you see right now. It wasn’t true, though. Lady Mary had a lot of jewellery, and a special real-diamond ring. One day, she came to her bedroom and the ring and her jewellery was gone.
As in GONE-GONE.
She immediately acused Ruth the Housemaid, Eleanor the Chambermaid and Philip the valet. Still, after she had asked and asked them, nothing important came from their mouths. Then Eleanor suddenly went missing! And then there was a ghost! Everywhere! But who was the ghost? It was…Eleanor. Eleanor was dead – Eleanor the Chambermaid – dead.
And who killed her? I can tell you that. Philip the valet killed her, so that it looked that she’d stole the ring. But was it Ruth or Philip who stole the ring and the jewellery? It was…Philip. Eleanor was haunting the estate so that she could tell them – it wasn’t her. But how did Philip kill her? With a neck-tie.
When we got back home, Caitlin went home and we waited for Rebecca and Hannah’s mum to come. While we did so, we did some pumpkin carving. First we had to take the lid-bit off, then we scooped out the seeds and the bits of pumpkin (for Halloween we decided that it should be guts and gore) and then we drew our designs on the front. I drew a face that had like a curly mouth which was like a snake-mouth. It was gloopy and wet and soggy, as we had to use our hands, but I decided that it was just a plant and from then on I was whizzing through that gory stuff.
Rebecca made a Harry Potter one, firstly because witches and wizards are Halloweeny, but secondly because she was soo obsessed with it – like us.
When Hannah and Rebecca had gone, we played for a while until it was about five. Then Nanny came and we got ready for Trick-Or-Treating. We got L-O-A-D-S loads of sweets – but after a while we came across a man – noticed he had a pumpkin with the Jesus Cross on it and guess what? With the sweets, he gave us a Halloweeny booklet all about Jesus! We’ve had a little read and it says:
“Halloween has nothing to do with God and his son Jesus and everything to do with God’s enemy, the devil. He loves people being afraid, and that’s what Halloween is all about.”
We saw lots of devils when we were trick-or-treating, and we weren’t scared – actually, as a matter of fact, everyone was smiling and having a nice time! He also said:
“[Halloween’s] all about fear. And not just the costumes – some older folks are scared to open their doors to ‘trick-or-treaters’.”
I think that Halloween is about fun, not fear. Nobody actually tries to scare people, it’s all just fun. It’s for children who like to dress up and wear cool facepaint and get loads of sweets. There were lots of old and young people who wanted to see the children dressed up and to be polite and to have a nice time.
“It’s about making money by selling scary rubbish to as many people as possible.”
To me, sweets aren’t rubbish – they’re very nutricious 😉 And at Christmas, the shops are selling things for months and monthss and months and trying to make as much money as possible. They are full of plastic angels, woolly jumpers, baubles, sweets, chocolate, Christmas cards and stuff. So it’s just the same but for much longer!
I like Christmas better than Halloween because at Halloween it’s basically just a normal day where you get to hunt for sweets at night – but on Christmas you get games all day, sweets and chocolate all day, presents all day and a roast dinner. 😛 But I don’t believe in Jesus or ghosts or God or any devil-stuff, I just care about partying and being nice and having a BRILLIANTIC day. He he he.
We had our own disco when we got back home. We made videos of ourselves doing a play about songs like: Love Really Hurts Without You, Ride on Time, Intergalactic thingy, Carwash and Let It Go. Because it was Halloween, sometimes Tilly and I dressed up as this weird ghost thing and then we would rise from the dead or something 😉 I’ll try and download some of the videos and put them on here.
