Today, Tilly, Mummy and I took William to school and then went to our club. This time, Tilly took in some paper and pencils and art-things and I gathered up a few books to take. But why? Well, Carly set up a small table for Tilly while I took the mice-and-bear chairs and a few big chairs from the main halls and set them up in a circle in the corner. Ring any bells? Tables, chairs, pencils, books and paper?
I assume that you know that if you set up a table and some chairs, you’ve made a place where people can sit and eat, or read, or something like that. But with pencils and paper, you can put them on the table and you’ve made a little art-desk. But that doesn’t mean just for you.
Okay, okay, I’ll reveal the secret. Tilly was making a small art-desk so that she could teach anybody who wanted to know how to draw penguins. This wasn’t her only time that she could, but it only accured to her when she really thought about drawing. These times are when she actually is drawing, when she has a good think about it. She was drawing a person when it accured to her that she was more than good enough to teach. And today, this was the day that she taught a group of people had to draw proper, cartoony, goofy-looking penguins. And, as far as I’m concerned, the people doing it had the most marvellous time that they’d ever had in this club.
But wait – there’s more to it. Why’d I need a few baby books (sorry I didn’t say that they were for for babies and toddlers in the first place) and some toddler chairs? I was reading the little ones stories – such as Albert le Blanc, I am Absolutely too Small for School (Charlie and Lola), and Maybel’s Magical Garden. Livvy and some others listened to me read and I think they all enjoyed it lots.
And guess what? A little girl’s mum said that she was so impressed with my reading that I could be in charge of the book club for the little ones! These are the questions I’m going to ask them about their books:
Which was your favourite character?
Did you care for any of the characters?
What did you think of this book?
Do you think that the author had a good imagination?
What was the book about?
