Today, as you probably know if you have read the previous post, we went to a Chinese New Year Party. It was fantastic! The people there were all home-educated (well, apart from William who we snuck in). First, we all watched a lion-dance, which was REALLY cool. Some of the people there hid inside this small lion-skin thing, and started rolling over trying to get some lettuce. But, as you probably know, lions don’t eat vegetables, so he kept spitting everything out 🙂
Then we all learnt some drumming. First we said some ‘hiyo’ word (I think it was that, but I can’t remember it properly). After saying that, we banged on the side of the drum and moved into the middle of it, where we then kept banging it quicker and quicker.
It’s about time we got onto another thing – hiding in the lions ourselves! There was a person as the bum (not to be rude) and someone as the head. Inside the head was a pad to rest your head on, and then you’d lift it up and pull a lever to make the eyes blink. It was really great, but I barely got a turn on the head before the man told us (‘us’ as in me, Tilly and Katie) to get out of the skin and do something else 🙁
The ‘something else’ was holding up some poles that would hold up a paper dragon and flailing it around everywhere – pushing the poles sideways to make it sideways gliding in the air, and holding the poles upright to make it normally gliding.
While some of this was going on, other people were in the Art Room drawing and sticking things onto cool polystyrene dragon heads. So, after the other stuff was going on, we swapped and went into the Art Room to do the dragon thing. We made a very amazing one, and I stuck big and small green and red glittery hearts on everything!
But not to forget Panda Guy! We all went and hugged and hand-fived him, and he was really soft and cuddly! We even got a Fortune Cookie, where my thing said I shall pass a test later on in life which will make me happier! Woohoo!! I HATE and LOVE tests!
There were also some people dancing Chinese dancing, where they all used sticks and poles and fans to do all the moves. One of the people dropped the pole, but I wouldn’t blame him – it looked really very heavy! They did all these touch your foot and put your hands together and zip-zap your legs in the air – it was all so amazingly cool! I can’t believe that they actually remembered all the moves!
