It was the last Creative Writing Course yesterday 🙁 Helen got whoever wanted to to read out their first chapter (if they have one…), and then she added on and took away and replaced such-and-such and said, “Hmmm” to such-and-such. She helped us get over our setting and told us never to throw the towel in, whatever struggle we had! Of course, I hadn’t written my first chapter, so earlier today I quickly wrote it up on my laptop!
Anyway.. We have to have written our whole story by the end of May, which I’m sure is long enough, but everybody doesn’t think so in their nerve of having a story by then! I’ve got a few different settings – tell me which one you think I should use in the comments:
- Gold is smuggled through ‘closed’ mountains and partly accidentally melted in an old mine the criminals did not notice. The detectives take a small dish of this liquid and, finding out that it was illegally smuggled gold, investigate further.
- An English tourist travels to Indonesia and suddenly goes missing within the world. The detectives try to find her, but the busy country, over the rampaging business of the palm oil transportation to England, it is hard to find the criminal through the masses of people.
- In the past in Rome, new grounds are specially made for the Pope, with intelligently carved statues, fountains and pools. The main statue attraction in there is suddenly stolen, and it’s up to the detectives to find out who did it.
- A lonely and hated innocent girl and her dog have to find out who took the King’s new grandfather clock, encrusted with jewels and with complete correct timing and intricate hands.
Lots of settings! I don’t know which one to choose. Maybe Setting 4 – but mostly Setting 1, because that was my original plot and I already have the first chapter up. Maybe Setting 2 – I don’t know! You tell me!
After that, we all went for a picnic and met up with Lillian’s mum (we took Lillian with us to the course) and dad and Katie and Chris. Mummy forgot to bring knives and forks so we had to dunk our frenchstick into cream cheese without splatting it everywhere!! After that, we walked down to the science centre. I thought it might be a bit bigger, like the space centre, but it was just one room 🙁 Inside the room, though, there were all sorts of fun experiments and things! You had to throw balls, and read signs, and I memorised plenty of planets! I thought it could have been better, but it was still great.
Lots of students from Indonesia had come to England for a couple of weeks, and that was where Lillian, Nathan, Tilly and I got Indonesian penpals! When they get back to Indonesia, they said they would email us and we could chat to each other! I could learn some Indonesian, and they could learn some English! Selamat tinggal untuk saat ini! Tidak. Keep going.
Anyways! After that, Lillian and Nathan had to go home (which ended in a lot of fake sobbing and real ‘noo!’s), but we all went down to Cambridge to explore a little more and we came across a band playing in the street. They were brilliant. The band was called PerKelt, and they sang lots of Swedish songs and played the drums, flute and guitar! Then we did some shopping and bought some sour raspberry sweets which were delicious. We even had dinner there in Wagamama! We converted Katie to chicken katsu, which I had too, but with the katsu sauce (Katie had sweet bbq sauce). Tilly had cod cubes, and Chris had chicken and vegetables, and Mummy a ssppiiccyy katsu thingy. It was delicious and I’m having it again and again now!
It was tiring on the way home, for it was already half past seven or so by the time we had walked to the car and eaten and things. But when I got home in bed under the duvets and blankets and eiderdown, all snuggled up with teddies and Moonie, and the soft dreams of LLL up ahead..(read posts I will write later)..
