And yes, we’ve started our Eat Around the World project once more! Do you remember Indonesian week? Now it’s Cymru week – pronounced Kum-r- (r with a rolled tongue) -ee – Welsh week! We’ve learnt some Welsh and things! We recommend ‘Learn Welsh with Will’ on YouTube – hwyl! (Meaning ‘fun’, but used as ‘bye’ for some reason…).
S’mae – Hello!
Hwyl – Bye (fun)
Sut wyt ti? – How are you?
Hwyl i Ti – Fun to you! (bye)
We learnt what Wales looks like, too. It’s beautiful, with pretty mountains, hills full of sheepish sheep, and did you know that there are nearly four times as many sheep as humans?! And did you know about how Llywellen used to be king of Wales, and that Edward wanted him to pay homage, but he didn’t, and Edward fought battles and when he won, forced him to? I love the history of Wales almost as much as the history of India (well..not nearly nearly as much as India, but India’s brilliant, and so is Wales, so imagine how good India would be if I love Wales..).
We’ve done a Welsh display with our writing and maps and things on there. We have coloured in flags and learnt a new poem, ‘The Force That Through the Green Fuse Drives the Flower’, by Dylan Thomas. He was Welsh.
Day 1
Leek, goat’s cheese and walnut tart with a courgette salad. The courgette salad wasn’t Welsh, plus it wasn’t the best, but the quiche was homemade and delicious!
Day 2
Next we had Welsh Glamorgan sausages! They were tasty! They were all full of leeks and scrumptious stuffs, with a crispy outside surface. I hope we can have them again!
Day 3
After that, on our next Welsh day, we had Welsh chicken in a delicious mushroom and leek sauce. The chicken was seasoned and dipped and dunked and ended up delightful! Now it’s drawn close attention to drawing with paprika chicken – something I thought would never be beaten or drawn with in liking!
Day 4
We had Welsh Rarebit for dinner! It’s a bit like cheese on toast, but it’s made of butter and cheese and something else I’ve forgotten..it was very tasty and salady!
Day 5
We started the day with a delicious green smoothie, but of course, that’s not Welsh, but who cares?
For today’s Welsh food, we made tasty Welsh cakes! They were all currenty and doughy and squishy and mowey..doesn’t really rhyme, does it? But anyway, they were very delicious! (And we’re still eating them!) And that’s the end of Welsh week! Apart from the courgette salad, I hope we have all of it again!
