4 – 10 September
Monday
Today, we started doing the ‘training’ for our science GSCE! Mummy’s signed us up for science GSCEs in two years, so I guess I’ll be doing them when I’m twelve… I am a little nervous, but it’s going to be really fun too! We’re doing a course called Southwest Science School, where you watch a video about the science, do the worksheets and everything in the syllabus, and then in two years do the exam! :0 We’re doing biology, chemistry, and physics, so on Monday we started with watching the biology video. It was all about cells, but we’d already studied them, so we knew most of what the lady running it (Joanne) was saying. Later on that day, after Tilly went to the retirement home to volunteer, we went to swimming lessons again! We hadn’t been for aggggggeees because the lessons stopped for the summer holidays, but if I do say so myself, I powered through that water like a rat out of an aquaduct! XD
Tuesday
Today, we did more of our science GCSEs. We watched the first video about chemistry and also the first about physics. Chemistry was about the Periodic Table and all the reactions of the elements in Group 1, and physics was about atoms. Again, we already knew a lot about the atoms and the Periodic Table (we’d also watched the odd video of reaction experiments) so we knew most of what she was saying. We also did some Latin, walked up to the library – oh yes, and we went scavenging. Well, basically, Mummy gave us a little bag of cranberries and a bag of nuts each and we went to the woods (without Mummy or Andy, but with our backpacks loaded of ‘fun things to do’ and rain macs). We then hid the bags of ‘provisions’ in the trees, pretended to find them (though we already knew where they were), found a little den area, sat on my rain mac and wore Tilly’s, and ate our ‘provisions’. Life in survival mode is actually a lot harder than I thought it was! When we got home, we finished off the rest of a film called Little Women, which has a book which has a sequel called Good Wives. The end of Little Women was basically Good Wives, and though it was a tad boring it was really good!
Wednesday
We went to Wrest Park with our friend Elise! Seth, Matilda and Arthur were going to come, but they didn’t in the end. We played an interesting game of go and get loads of cups of water and pour it on each other’s heads. Well no, not exactly; we went to the cafe, got nine cups of water, got one of us to go on top of the play equipment, got the other two to go underneath, and then the one on the top had to pour water on them through the cracks in the wooden play equipment. They got three cups of water and you had to do a dribble at a time, but we got fairly soaked anyways.
Thursday
We stayed inside today, but Tilly and I did briefly go for a walk, but stayed inside for the rest. I spent most of the day by the kitchen window, reading. We did some Latin – we’re trying to get half-way through the second Cambridge Latin Book, so we needed to catch up, so we had to do it very quick – a stage a day! We’re actually doing quite a good job. It’s getting a little more fun now they’re just drumming it into you and not teaching you new stuff! XD
Friday
We went to drama in the morning! Matilda was out so she didn’t come for us to drive her in the morning. And guess what?! Today was scripts day!! We got our scripts for the pantomime, which is so exciting! We didn’t have time to do singing because we read through the whole script! I’m Elphaba the Wicked Witch of the East, and Tilly is Glinda the Good Witch of the West. It’s really fun! Tilly and I are sooo excited!
Saturday
Today was a rainy day. In fact, in the morning it was very sunny and warm, and we had been planning to sleep in a tent for a while, so we were going to today… BUT it then started raining, so… We didn’t. Although Nanny came round, and it was a fun day of science and Latin and ‘scripting’ from the scrips we got yesterday!
Sunday
We went tto the park for a bit and did some more Latin. Mummy said we could put up the tent in the garden, so I was really excited, but then it rained and we had to postpone it 🙁
