Violet, Klaus and Sunny Baudelaire have been cheated yet again by Count Olaf. Now their guardian Mr. Poe has let them into an even more dastardly place – Prufrock Preparatory School. Even though it does not sound exactly sinister, the Baudelaire orphans know that something is up when they see the little school’s motto: ‘Momento mori’, the Latin words for ‘Remember you will die’, scribbled on the arch.
And they are right; Count Olaf, disguised as P.E. teacher Coach Genghis, appears and forces the poor orphans to run hundreds of laps from night till dawn, tiring them out completely. But when they all three of them realise that any more of this and they could ever so possibly flunk their exams, their best friends Isadora and Duncan Quagmire help them out. But they don’t realise how much they are risking their own lives for their friends’, and very quickly Count Olaf has them on his hands as well, seeking not only the Baudelaire fortune, but now the famous Quagmire Sapphires!
