Monday
I had a piano lesson this morning, my last until two weeks from now as we’re going to Daddy’s on Saturday (!!!!!!!!!!!). Then I did some maths and physics and had a swimming lesson with my friends in the afternoon. We were supposed to be doing butterfly stroke this week, but my teacher – who I really dislike – decided not to because “I don’t like teaching it”, so instead we did frontcrawl, which we’ve just done over and over again recently 😣 But it was still fun, because I got to see my friends and we all had a good laugh and a chat together!
In the evening, I had a maths lesson with Damian, in which we did some questions from the Senior Maths Challenge paper from this year. I was really pleased when I could do a lot of them even though they’re intended for students a few years above me, and the ones I couldn’t work out by myself made sense to me when Damian ran through them!
Tuesday
This morning, I read through the reflection and refraction topic in Physics. I think I know it enough by now to be able to move on to the next topic, which I think is Nuclear Fission or something, next time I do physics.
In the evening, I had a physics lesson with Dave, in which we finally did something that I’ve done before! There were only 9 students which was odd because there are usually at least sixty. What made it worse was that when Dave asked us to type something into the chat box to check that all nine of us were awake and paying attention, only 3 people said anything! So nine of the 100ish that are enrolled were there, and only 3 were actually listening to anything that he said. Rude!
Anyway, we were doing moments in the lesson which I’m reasonably good at, as far as my physics capabilities extend!
Wednesday
I started off today by doing some Herodotus. I’ve almost finished Book 1 already, by taking a few notes and then writing them up into a book-by-book summary.
My mum then spent the whole of the afternoon in my sister’s bedroom converting it into a study! I can’t remember if I’ve already written about this, but we’re going to convert Tilly’s bedroom into a study and then install a bunkbed in my room so that Tilly and I can share!
As for me, I spent the afternoon writing my story, reading my book and just generally sitting around being excited to see Daddy on Saturday!
Thursday
I spent the entirety of this morning reading, as I’m really trying to get through Atlas Shrugged so I can maybe finish it while at Daddy’s. I put a post on a Great Books group a few weeks ago about this book and got a lot of comments on it – the majority of them were either swearing at me or telling me I’m a horrible human in a more polite way, but the main impression I was getting was that people read and loved the book as a teenager, then liked it less and less as an adult. Well, I feel like I’ve hit that point half-way through reading it! It’s not that I’ve got to a particularly bad or boring bit or anything, it’s just that I’m losing interest in reading it at all. Oh well. I’m pushing through!
In the afternoon, I finished Book 1 of Herodotus’ Histories! You can now look at my Book-by-Book Summary on this blog, in which you’ll find my summary of the first book of the Histories.
Friday
Daddy’s tomorrow!!!
This morning, I did some physics and finally reached the end of the chapter on waves! So really I just went over the reflection and refraction parts, learning about the angle of incidence, angle of refraction, the normal and the formulae that can be used to calculate each. Then I spent the rest of the morning reading Atlas Shrugged with Tilly on my mum’s bed (Tilly’s room is now completely empty while we paint it, and all the things that were inside it are now in my room – so the only space to read is my mum’s bed!).
In the afternoon, I started on Book 2 of Herodotus’ Histories. It was a really quite bizarre beginning to the chapter, in which Herodotus documented the cultural customs and religious practices of the Egyptians. He also talked about the different animals unique to Egypt, like crocodiles and hippopotamuses (although it’s clear from his description that he’s never seen a hippopotamus before in his life).
