Daddy’s house!! (19 – 28 June, roughly Week #25)

On Saturday the 19th, Tilly and I went to stay with our dad in Bury St Edmunds! We haven’t seen him in two years now so we were really excited to see him, our stepmum and half-siblings again. We have three half-siblings: Jago, who turned 8 while we were staying with them; Ambrose, who’s 5; and Willow, who is 3. They are the cutest, most amazing children ever and I love them all so so much!

On the first day, we got there quite late so there was only time to eat dinner and play with the children a bit before we went to bed. We were sleeping in the lounge on the comfiest double airbed in existence, with three thick blankets and a ton of cushions (because we forgot our pillows ๐Ÿ˜’).

In the morning, we all went on a walk around the area and went to a playground afterwards. Willow collected some wheat from a field which she probably shouldn’t have been collecting from, and Ambrose held my hand the entire way and refused to let go even when he had to trail after me through multiple muddy puddles!

I got some cute photos of the children that afternoon, though taking a decent photo of any of them is very difficult as they are so restless!

The next day was Jago’s 8th birthday! He got lots of presents that he really loved including an Among Us tracksuit set and colouring book. We went to a soft play centre in the afternoon where they spent hours running up and down the same super long staircase to go on the same super small slide on repeat! ๐Ÿ˜‚ I don’t know how they didn’t collapse from exhaustion; Tilly and I were taking it in turns to do ten-minute shifts with the children, and spending the rest of the time resting in the cafe with the adults, absolutely drained!

On Tuesday, Tilly and I went to Costa in town. She got some kind of disgusting latte thing and I got a huge mango smoothie! We got back a couple of hours later, back to a house of attention-demanding, energy-draining, completely mental but absolutely beloved kids!

Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday were mooching-about days. I made a cheesecake with Willow and did a science experiment with the boys, making some glow-in-the-dark slime (though unfortunately it wasn’t a great kit and it didn’t actually work! ๐Ÿ˜…). Daddy’s wife Kerri has been learning how to knit for almost a year now and has been selling her awesome products online, so Tilly and I grabbed the opportunity to learn how to knit some cool patterns! We’ve done a little knitting before when we were very small, but had forgotten the different techniques now. We both made a variety of different coloured squares for patchwork cushions and blankets we’re aiming to make, and then Kerri showed us how to make little knitted bumblebees! I called mine Horseradish because that’s the first word that just came into my head as I’m writing this sentence.

A blurry picture of the recently named Horseradish!

Kerri also kindly knitted Tilly and I two big scented owls! I don’t have a picture of Tilly’s, but she called it Cinnamon as it was scented with cinnamon drops. My one was scented with “ocean scent”, which actually smells remarkably like the salty, windy sea!

On one of the days – I can’t remember which! – we went to the absolutely beautiful Nowton Park! It was a really lovely walk which everyone enjoyed, though there was a lot of the inevitable “are-we-nearly-home-now”ing and “my-feet-hurt”ing ๐Ÿ˜‰

We went to the playground before having our walk through the woods, and Jago spotted a tiny baby bunny rabbit emerging from his little burrow just inches away from us! I managed to get a few really close-up photos and videos of the cute little critter, as he was hopping about so close. My new name is now the Bunny Whisperer!

We were supposed to be going home on Saturday the 26th, but Tilly and I (and especially Tilly; she had it a lot worse than me ๐Ÿ˜ž) were really ill with all the symptoms of salmonella poisoning! ๐Ÿ˜ฌ We didn’t want to risk driving home in case Tilly was sick in the car, so we decided to delay our home journey until Monday, in time for my swimming lesson.

On Sunday, Tilly and I were both feeling much better, which was lucky because that was the date of Jago’s birthday party! He had three of his friends over and they played in the garden, on video games and ate an awful lot of cake!

We came home on Monday morning. I want to say “bright and early” because we left about very soon after we woke up, but that’s only because we didn’t get up until about half past nine in the morning! ๐Ÿ˜‚ We came home to a massive surprise which I will write about in my next weekly summary…

We had a wonderful time at Daddy’s and loved seeing him, Kerri and also the kids, who have grown up so fast! ๐Ÿฅฐ We can’t wait to see him again soon. Hopefully it will be much, much sooner than another two years!!
