Week #38, 20 – 26 September 2021

Monday

I had a piano lesson this morning which lasted about forty minutes longer than it was supposed to as I got into a lengthy conversation with my tutor about politics and, in particular, the fiery debates on woke-ism in my Ancient Greek WhatsApp group.

When I got home, I had time to revise some of the physics topics that I’ve had a long break from before quickly eating lunch and hurrying to my swimming lesson. We mainly focused on breaststroke today – my favourite stroke! – and on different diving techniques and the correct kind of tumble turn to perform after every breaststroke length.

One of the people from the Greek WhatsApp group (perhaps in an effort to prove that he meant nothing by calling me Little Miss Ann Widdecombe – I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt and assume that it was just a normal and kind gesture) asked if I would be interested in contributing to an online journal he’s setting up, which will share essays, poems, reviews and more by aspiring teenagers the world over. I readily agreed and have been set the task of writing a sonnet by Sunday!

Tuesday

Today, my mum and I found out that the local school which I was planning on sitting my GCSE Physics at in January isn’t going to be sitting any GCSEs in January anymore. That meant we had the option to postpone physics until next summer, or… do it in 2 months. I have absolutely no idea why but we chose the latter. Physics GCSE in 2 months! Bring it on!

So I spent most of the afternoon today doing physics and my instrument practice. I had a Virtual Sprint biking class in the evening and I am honestly in so much pain right now. I’m now about to get to writing that poem for Calydon, the writing blog that the Greek WhatsApp group guy set up!

Wednesday

This morning, I watched the next few videos in the Khan Academy Physics series, which were mainly about acceleration and distance vs. time graphs. In the afternoon, my mum and I read the next book (Book VI) of Plato’s Republic, in which Socrates discussed the purpose of education and found where virtue had hidden itself within the kallipolis (Plato’s ideal city).

In the afternoon, I did some more Khan Academy physics, my instrument practice and then attended my first physics lesson back with Dave. We were mainly focusing on picking up old skills today, so we did some simple questions involving prefixes and rearranging formulae.

Thursday

I started off the day today with Khan Academy physics. I wasn’t feeling too well this morning so we got off to a bit of a slow start. In the afternoon, we went for a walk and then watched the next episode of our Ancient Rome documentary. Then I had a maths lesson with Niall. We were supposed to be going to Costco today but decided to postpone that to tomorrow as I wasn’t feeling well – so today was a bit of a slow day and uneventful one. I’m looking forward to my traditional Costco smoothie and lunch tomorrow!

Friday & Weekend

Over the weekend, I started to feel really ill, and got about one hour’s sleep on Saturday night as I spent most of it being sick. Then I didn’t eat all of Sunday, and I tried to eat some toast on Monday only to throw it back up again a minute later. :/ I feel extremely dehydrated as I haven’t been able to keep water down either, so not feeling good at all! Not a good place to be considering I need to learn an entire GCSE physics syllabus in six weeks. Hopefully I’ll feel better on Monday to get started again with my studies.
