Starring: Ben Affleck, Bryan Cranston, John Goodman
This film was based on the true story of the Iran hostage crisis in 1979-1981, when around 50 American diplomats were held hostage by Iranian militants. Six of them, however, managed to escape, and were hiding in the house of a Canadian diplomat. It was the job of CIA agent Tony Mendez (Ben Affleck) to smuggle these six Americans out of Iran and safely back to their homeland. The agent managed this by coming up with a long and complicated ruse to fool the Iranians: he pretended that they were making a huge Hollywood film and needed to use Iran as a location to shoot the scenes. The six hostages had to pretend to be actors, screenwriters or cameramen. It is a truly amazing miracle that the plan actually worked, and the six Americans were safely transported back to their country.
I though this film was very well done and the acting quality was amazing. There were a few parts that were obviously very over-dramatised, but they ultimately led to an effect of suspense and excitement and made the film really fun to watch.
