The Cinema, a Lunch Out, and a Week in the Showrooms!

We went to the cinema with our friends! It was great fun. We watched a brilliant film by the name of ‘Hidden Figures’. This is what it was about:

It was a true story. There were three women in it; Katherine Johnson, Mary Jackson and Dorothy Vaughan. They were all black, and this was set in America in the 1960s during the segregation. However, the three women were very clever and had high-up jobs in NASA. At the time, America were racing against Russia to send a man round Space and then onto the moon. Katherine Johnson was a brilliant mathematician. Without her, they would never have got John Glenn around Earth in Space. Mary Jackson was the first female and the first black engineer, and also the first black woman to attend an all white college – and also my favourite character. Dorothy Vaughan was the first black and the first female supervisor in NASA.

Anyway! When we had watched the film we saw a panel discussion, which wasn’t the best but it was fairly amusing.

Then we went to IKEA for lunch! I tried a new butternut squash curry I hadn’t had before. It was really tasty. Then we went to play in the showrooms – Tilly was Sylvia and Eve was Goldie, Grace was Talia and I was Tatiana, and Annie was Chrissa. You may wonder why the title says ‘and a Week in the Showrooms’ – we didn’t actually spend a week there! No, we pretended to. In fact, I’d quite like to…

It was about five when we came home. I really enjoyed the day.
