I would love to go to sixth form in September next year, and we think it would be helpful if I had my maths and English GCSEs by then, just in case the school system isn’t convinced by my wonderful home ed escapades!
We decided a few weeks ago that I’d sit my English literature, English language and maths GCSEs next summer. For the literature exam, I’ve chosen A Christmas Carol, Lord of the Flies and Macbeth to study. There is also a poetry component, but I’m not sure exactly how that works yet. I’ve found that Massolit is a wonderful resource for this exam, because there are loads of really well done courses from literature experts there that I’ve been watching and taking detailed notes from.
I chose the above books because I’ve read them all before and was totally enthralled (plus I know the stories inside out!). I also think that, because they’re shorter than the other books I could’ve chosen, there are a few easy-to-identify themes rather than lots of more ambiguous ones. I think that will balance out and work to my advantage in the exams.
I’m fairly confident about my English exams – I think I will feel more so once I’ve sat some past papers in a few months, because at the minute I don’t really know how the exams are formatted. Wish me luck!!
