A fun week in and around home

We went to the park with my friend Niamh. We went on this big swingy thing, which was super fun.

Once we’d had enough in the playground, we all went for a walk round the river. Niamh and I found some goose eggs – they were black, and sort of brown-speckled. I will never forget them! We found them by the river bed, just at the end of the bank, and down a little ditch were the water couldn’t get in. They were so shiny and lovely! There were three or four swans and geese swimming eagerly towards the nest, and as we watched, two huge geese came quacking wildly behind them! When we came back later, we couldn’t find them, unfortunately; perhaps the two geese were just a little too late 🙁

A few days later, we went to a different park, where we walked round the woods. We saw lots of little terriers and one big, shaggy dog, huge and fluffy, but with such big brown eyes and shaggy brows, he walked oh past us and a half! He looked at us as if to say, “I have no use for you today; but then, you look so little and calming, and I do love to be petted..” But then he heard his owner’s call and, panting gently, he brushed us softly with his great big blonde fur, so high up it was on Tilly’s waist line that his great pretty ears stroked her, and carried on his way. He was very cute!

When we got back we went into the library near by, and ticked off some books and got some out too.

There was also Costco, a great big wonderful shop with ice cream and books and, most of all, bears. This might sound rather amusing and a little odd, but I jumped into a great box (just lower than Mummy in its height) of hugfun plush teddy bears – you know, those great big brown ones, or the equally huge beige ones. I nestled right in, stroking one of their great muzzles, my arms and legs against their fluffy fur. Then I fell alseep! Here I am:

We did some work as well, though, especially as sometimes it was just too hot to want to stay outside for long!

We also went to Wrest Park, where we met my friends Myrren, Jasper, Nathan, and Lillian. We met Katie and Tilly there, too. We all played fun games together, and once I accidentally got hurt, so Myrren got her woolen grey belt from her woolen cardigan and wrapped it continuously around my wrist where it was hurt. I went around for the rest of the day like that till they left, and I must say, even when the pain had gone away, it was very comfortable! We played spy games and such. It was really fun.

As we were walking by the river, Lillian and I stumbled over a patch of turf. When we fell and got up, looking round us, we noticed that it wasn’t a bit of turf, it was a bit of dirty brown honeycomb, that had been passed through a clump of mud. We looked at each other, laughing, and then back round; and we saw a little ditch by the river bank. Inside this ditch were a hundred wasps, all rebuilding their home, as Fran said when she saw it later, and throwing out useless honeycomb (what we had stumbled on). All the wasps were buzzing and buzzing most horrendously, and when we got closer, one of them started hovering round Lillian. Just as I was saying, “Stay still and it’ll fly away,” it did so, and it came across me. For a moment I thought it had gone up my sleeve, but turns out it hadn’t; it was only me in my fright. We bent down for a little look, further away, of course, this time, and saw that each of the wasps were flying into the river and back to the nest on repeat. Maybe they were collecting some marsh from the muddy water to pat down onto their home. Who knows?

We also went to the library a few times, as we are doing the Summer Reading Challenge.

I had to go to hospital for a bloodtest, so I got to have lunch in IKEA for a special treat first 🙂

That week was My Cooking Week, where I made a meal-plan and made everybody’s dinners myself. I made a splendid pasta with courgette and tomatoes and it was delicious! Then I made a madras, a really tasty one, too, mind – and I made loads of breakfasts and a few lunches. It was brilliant to feel myself cooking!
