DAY 1: Today we’re on holiday in Dantabulosis London! (You can tell that’s a made-up word, but anyway.) It rained, disappointedly, for all of the day, so we couldn’t go anywhere. Our hotel also did not open until three, so we were rather stuck with what to do. Eventually we drove up to Asda. Once we had bought and eaten our lunch, we wondered if we should go back to Asda again. We did, but not for long. At quarter to two, we left again, and now the receptionist has let us in! It’s a lovely room with shiny red polished bricks in the bathroom! The single beds, however, might as well have had bent metal bars in the mattresses they were so uncomfortable! The double bed also had its disadvantages for Mummy, because it dipped right in the middle so it felt like your legs and bum weren’t resting on anything! But I think we shall manage.
DAY 2: We woke up and had a gigantic fry-up with eggs, beans, toasts and jams and all that!
Once the rain had cleared up a bit, we headed on the bus to Hampton Court Palace.
It was amazing! We had an audio-guide each, but eventually they went too out of control, so we left them hanging round our necks. It was where Henry VIII visited in his splendid boat, I’m told, and we saw his quarters and apartments. There was the kitchen, and the bedrooms; and the Clock Court with an amazing clock with twenty-four numbers on it instead of twelve!
We followed some trails too, about what Henry VIII would have eaten, and Tilly had to find ghosts in the corridors! We won a fluffy thing at the end.
We watched some Georgian plays, which were awesome. The actors were brilliant, clear, and never stumbled. Inside the palace it was so intricately carved and the gardens were beautiful!
There were pillars around the courtyard, and a lovely, high and beautifully spraying fountain in the middle of the short grass. Flowers, too, of all pinks and reds and oranges, sprung out from around its glinting marble base and – oh, I’m turning into description mode. I’d better try and stop that or you’ll be stuck here all day…
It was lovely and I hope we can go again!
