Lavinia’s Little Learners: my mini tutoring business!

Here’s a sad story for you. There was once a girl who, when she was about seven years old, started attending fortnightly fun sessions for home-educated children at a place called Gamlingay. She started organising her own little “business” there, reading to the younger children and helping them write stories, but as she and her sister grew older they left Gamlingay, and she never saw her little learners again.

Anyway, when she was about twelve, she started the job up again. She called it Lavinia’s Little Learners, and she advertised on some Facebook groups, offering lessons in English, piano, maths and Latin for small children at her local library. The requests came rolling in! Most of the parents wanted piano lessons, and some just wanted their children to be read to. The little girl fell in love with all of them.

But the sad story isn’t over yet, because then a horrible disease called COVID-19 decided to show up just when LLL was really thriving. All the lessons had to be cut off, and the girl lost all contact with every one of her little learners─apart from two adorable five-year-old twins, who she read to over video calls every now and then. Now, at fourteen, the girl hadn’t seen her little learners in person for over a year.

You’ve probably guessed that the girl in the story is me. It’s a very sad story, but hopefully it won’t be for long─lockdown is supposed to be lifted at the beginning of March, and I might be able to meet up with a few of my little learners then.

But, however sad the story, my mini tutoring business has been so rewarding! I love my little learners and I hope they love me too ☺
