Our Home-ed Halloween Party!

Yesterday, we went to our usual Thursday club for a Halloween party. Some of our friends didn’t arrive, some did, and we played with those who did. We turned up entirely in black (even in black socks!) and had some face paint done. Tilly didn’t want much on her face, so she painted herself a scar tied together on stitches on the lower part of her cheek, and a severed cut across one arm, and a vertical one on her right. I got Mummy to paint my face white with a painting sponge, and then she did black round my eyes, and dark red lips. I called myself A Dead Victorian Chimney Sweep, and the game seemed to go along well. I was sweeping a chimney when somebody lit a fire below, so I died a terrible death of smoke suffocation. (I was a ghost, by the way).

Our friends Mason, Henry, Niamh, Grace, and Arthur were there. A man named Party Peter was there to entertain all of us. He did a magic show and played some songs that we danced to for one of the prizes from the Prize Box. In the magic show, he got a wand which had lots more stacked inside of it. He got a six-year-old from the audience, Joy, to come and stand on a chair to be one of the hosts. Whilst rummaging for the wand, he put the one inside slightly out and held onto it. “Right then, Joy,” he said, “this was given to me by my professor, Albus Dumbledore. Please do be very gentle with it, and don’t break it.” Then he walked away clutching the wand inside, for a moment pretending he thought Joy had produced magic and made the wand twice. “Fine. Have this one, and don’t break it.” So he gave her the second wand, pulled out a third; gave her a third wand, pulled out a forth; gave her a forth wand, and pulled out a fifth; gave her a fifth wand, pulled out a sixth; and finally he gave her the piddly little stick and didn’t manage to pull out any more, only to Joy’s despair.

At the end of Party Peter’s role, he left and we went down to the park below the hub. We didn’t really play very much on the obstacles because we found two people who liked dinosaurs – Arthur and Grace. With Arthur and Grace we sat and talked and talked and talked and talked, so we got a lot out of it. When we had to go, we were still blabbering away about dinosaurs to nobody.

I’m really excited about the next Halloween Party we’re going to, and more about the day in itself!
