I actually a relatively good sleep last night! I fell asleep quite late but that was only because we went to bed quite late. The beds are actually “surprisingly” comfortable! I was woken up at midnight though by Mummy banging on the door and whisper-shouting, “Girls!-girls!” Apparently we had inadvertently locked her out and she had had to try and wake us without waking the people in the room nextdoor (Tilly and Dom slept right through it: unfortunately the neighbours and I didn’t!).
At 10 a.m. we were parked in Milldale, about to begin on a walk to Dovedale which would prove to taken six and a half hours. The guide book said it would take only four and a half, but guess what we did on the way? We climbed a mountain, of course! It’s called Thorpe Cloud, and it took us maybe a bit over an hour to climb up it and back, and by that time we were clumped on the ground shivering and exhausted but having a lot of fun!
The walk was scenic and pretty, especially at the beginning, where we were mainly walking along a long bubbling brook with four-foot high waterfalls running along it, which slowly turned into a canal and then a river and then a stream and then back into a brook again. There were lots of caves along the way which were fun to climb up into and good for photos! We walked back via Stanshope, where we snacked on a well-pined-for cherry scone. When we finally got back to the youth hostel, we were all extremely grateful and ready for our pasta!
