It’s currently Sunday 3rd July, and tomorrow I’m going to be cracking on with studies for my next 3 GCSEs: maths, English literature, English language. Since I finished my biology and Latin exams a couple of weeks ago, I’ve had a nice break from work. For a few days I went to stay with my grandma, and then with my step-dad.
While I was staying there, we went down to London on the train. (Tilly came with us, and we dropped her off there for a politics weekend that she really enjoyed.) We mooched about the shops, Covent Garden Market, the Tate and got dinner at Masala Zone. I had a delicious butter chicken thali.
There was some interesting art in the Tate, but for the most part a lot of the cool things that I remember being there have been replaced by blatant left-wing propaganda! An example is this fascinating piece, which was one of many slides on a huge wall. (The Tate seeks to reassure us that these views do not necessarily reflect the views of the author. 🤔)
For my English lit GCSE, I have to choose a few different books to study (it’s something like a Victorian novel, a Shakespeare play, etc.). While staying with my step-dad, I got a headstart by reading a couple of the books off those lists – namely, Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, and A Christmas Carol. I’ve read both these books before a couple of years ago, but I think I got a lot more out of them the second time around. I love them both – I don’t think I could choose between those two, let alone a whole list of others!
Andy and I went on a really long walk around a nearby lake with a picnic. We also did some singing together, and even started writing our own song. On my last day staying with him I made a scrumptious vanilla and chocolate marble cake.
Now we’re back, and Tilly and I are planning a productive week ahead of studies and healthy eating. I’ve also been thinking about switching up the sorts of posts on this blog. So far, it’s been filled with sort of boring, weekly-ish posts, and I want to start sharing more of my actual written work, be that any essays I might be writing while studying for my English lit GCSE, or just my general thoughts on political issues or other literary subjects. So do keep on the lookout for more essays and less dull summaries!
