You might be thinking that home-educated children just have to sit and stare at the walls on weekdays when schoolkids are at the Horrible Building of Destruction and Despair. But really, the weekdays are the best kind of days for us, because then all the things aren’t busy, and we don’t have to queue, and we’re also able to see our friends more often. At weekends, that’s the time when we fit in some work and computer and Saturday-and-Sunday ‘lounging around on the sofa with films and hot chocolate’. So even at weekends it’s fun – that’s why you probably understand how much more considerably enjoyable home-schooling is than school. So on this post, I will be writing about the things I have done in this busy week. Firstly, before I go into dates and days, we finished Helen Keller’s Teacher, and watched the black-and-white version of ‘The Miracle Worker’ – recommended highly. We went to the park, too, with Tilly’s friend Eleanor, and watched some of the ‘Prisoner of Azkaban’ with her.
Monday
On Monday, we went ice skating. As we haven’t been for such a long time, we had kind of forgotten the skills, so when we first got onto the ice, we wobbled and wibbled until we picked it up again and never even fell over! By the time Gracie arrived, we were whizzing towards her like super-fast rockets! We taught Evie and Annie how to skate without penguins, and taught ourselves a few tricks through some step-by-step private tuition.
Afterwards, we left the rink to head off to swimming lessons. This time Lottie wasn’t there, and neither was the girl who came in later on last time, so it was just the three of us. We did some more front-crawl, and we went over it with one less float, no floats, jumping in, etc. It was very fun.
But that wasn’t all! Nobody had had enough quite yet – even for the long hours we had been there. I had a last-minute, quick-run-we’re-going-to-be-late sleepover from the pool to Gracie’s! Of course, she had French, so there was no time to grab clothes, pants, or anything, or to have a shower! That was when I forgot Kendall Bear! How could I? It was horrible! But Gracie cheered me up with a bedtime story, relaxing hot bath and lots of games and trampolining. Then her mum made us a lovely dinner of cheesy pasta. We went to sleep all at the same time, and I slept in Annie’s top bunk. I was alright about missing Kendall Bear, but of course, next time, we should plan out the whole sleepover business before we go…
Tuesday
On Tuesday, I woke up in the morning and we hurried off to the creative writing course with Helen Moss. This time we did a bit more of our story and plotting it and things. After that, we went down to Cambridge a little more into the middle, and met Kristina there, of whom we haven’t seen in ages. We went shopping for a bit and bought some super delicious sushi with ginger and wasabi (well, I only sucked at a tiny dot of wasabi on the end of some sticky seaweed). We walked down the streets and towns for a bit, and I have decided I would like to go to Cambridge University and stay in one of the collages and ride around all day on my posh little bike! Then we went to the Fitzwilliam Museum, where they had lots of Greek and Roman stuff, and lots of clocks! As you probably know, I have an obsession with clocks for some reason!
Wednesday
On Wednesday, we learnt the first 25 of the Periodic Table song! We did some balancing equations and things. We started to grow crystals, too! In the afternoon, Sebby came round. We took him to the park and read him some stories and played some games. In the evening, I had Peter Pan rehearsals with Ellanean, my new home-educated friend. They’re even choosing whether she or I should actually act out Tinkerbell!
Thursday
On Thursday, we went to our usual club where we did some cooking. We cooked coconut chocolate things, which are really delicious and oh, so sweet and chocolatey! Lillian and Niamh were there, so we were able to play with them; Gracie, Evie and Annie turned up too 😀 There were babies galore, which was a good thing for all of us 😉 Then, rather unexpectedly and happily, Lillian came back with us for a sleepover! It was really fun; we watched ‘The Odd Life of Timothy Green’ – well, most of it – and got into bed at around twenty to ten 😉
Friday
On Friday, Lillian and I both woke up at the exact same time! We hurried off to the train, for today we went to Saint Albans to meet Fran (Lillian’s mum) and Nathan, (her brother). We met them and here and then ran as fast as we could for our train, which took off pretty much as soon as we gallopped onto it! We looked into the cathedral and had a great but hard-to-understand tour there. We had lunch and then walked through the shops for a bit. They had Tiger, and I think one called Smiggle.
I’m supposed to have Cubs tonight but I’m so exhausted we’re going to stay in and watch a film with hot chocolate in our onesies!
