A few days ago it was one of those times where Matilda had gone to a sleepover with Katie and William was about to go to his mum’s and Andy needed to do work, so me and Mummy had a Mummy-and-Lavinia day. We went to Milton Keynes to do some shopping in the MK centre. It took us about 20 minutes to get there.
Firstly, we went to John Lewis, spending about 45 minutes downstairs looking at posh china things and old-looking toasters and things. Then we went up tons of escalators to…I think it was the top one, but it might of been 1 or 2 from there. Anyway, we looked at all the wool and cushions and the coloured ribbon for at least an hour. I loved the teal-coloured stuff, or anything that was in a shade of green or blue – but I liked the other colours too.
In the kitchen rooms, they had really amazing cupboards. I know you think that I’m crazy – I am – but even if you don’t think that some cupboards are cool, when you see these ones, you’ll be dazzled. There was one where it was really long, and as you kept pulling it, another one would come out! There was one where you pulled it out and it was extremely long and wide and big, and also there was another one under it – in the same cupboard! There were cool plate racks, a little cupboard above another cupboard and a cool oven where the door would slide underneath so that you wouldn’t burn your legs! Our oven’s not like that! I’m envious!
Still in John Lewis, I went to the stationry section. They had loads of pens and fountain pens and a board with some sheets of paper to test them on. Me and Mummy wrote a story on there called ‘The Invisibility Gene’. It was about a boy called Hugo and his sister, Lavinia. They both had an invisibility gene, and they could use it not all the time, but whenever they wanted to. A John Lewis man came and got some fountain pens for me to try and use. I found one that was really easy and cool to use, but I already had one at home so we couldn’t get it – plus that fountain pen was for my birthday.
I found this little laptop and I wrote a story called ‘The Elf Family’. It was really good. The only thing wrong with the laptop was that whenever you were writing it was quite likely that you could accidentally touch the mouse-bit and start writing something in a different place. It was smaller than Mummy’s one. I had a feeling that this computer had not a very good company, but then I suppose all the ‘it’s not too sensative’ stuff was just because the mouse was smaller than it should have been.
We had lunch at Pret. I had an avacardo wrap and Mummy had soup. It was yummy.
I went in the Waterstones bookshop too. I found this nursery rhymes book – but it also had a little piano thing on it so that you could play the rhymes! I know it sounds slightly babyish, but the the songs are just to start you off – like Three Blind Mice or Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.
We also went in this cool Halloween shops. They had devil costumes and things, and Door-Creepy things. They even had some kind of zombie sick or zombie blood that you stick on your window or your car – ooh, car would be a good idea…and then put a dummy in the car that’s got red blood dripping from its mouth….he he…
Right at the end, when probably everything but the Body Shop was closed, we actually went to the Body Shop. As I had a purse with £2 in it, I bought a little bottle of passionfruit-smelling shower gel. It does smell nice, but nobody can guess what kind of fruit it is when I ask them to smell it. And you know what? They even had chocolate-smelling shower gel! I thought it smelt a bit too…a bit too chocolatey!
We got home at about 6:30, so I watched Junior Bake Off with Mummy, had dinner and went to bed.
