Story: Esmerelda’s Hollow Journey

Esmerelda woke up suddenly. Thinking she was in her normal bed, she got up and looked around for her bedroom door. But it was not there, and all she could see was a flowing stream and green trees. She looked down at her clothes, finding herself in a sorcerer’s clothing and a belt carrying rather an amount of things. It held five jars with sparkles inside, a sorcerer’s sorcerer stick and a huge jar of sparkling things.

She saw that she was standing near the edge of a peak, where a big whirlwind started. Her life, her heart, her husband, her children, and all of the things that were precious to her were whisked away.

In front of her she saw a hut, which had smoke coming out of its chimney, and ran towards it, in hope of finding her home. She opened the heavy door and burst in to find eight old witch-looking ladies sitting on eight wooden benches. They looked up at Esmerelda and grinned.

“Another,” she cackled, “Human. But you may not be for long. Heh, heh, heh.” Esmerelda looked at the woman. Where her eyes should have been were blue, shadowy holes, and her skin was green.

“Yes,” another said, “You are heading towards a dangerous journey. You would be a historic hero if you passed the journey, and you may get all your beloved belongings back.”

“But what do you mean? What has happened to my children and my husband and all my things? Will they know that I’ve gone?” Esmerelda panicked, looking at her sorcerer clothes.

“Your things have paused,” the first lady said, sucking at a peice of grey thread. “But you are the one that’s to have the desicion of death or life.”
