The Three and a Half Mile Hike

Today I went on a hike with Beavers. We went for a JOTT badge, and JOTT stands for Jamboree on the Trail. Every single Beaver, Cub and Scout in the world went hiking on the same time, apart from Tilly who had a disco and a sleepover at her friend Elise’s house! That lazy-stopout! William went with the Beavers too because of his broken wrist, and if he went on the Cubs one it would of been six and a half miles more, so he didn’t want to do that with a sling and a rock-hard plaster on!

At the beginning, William wandered off with his friend Robert. I stayed with the leaders and chatted with them. I stooped up a big, grassy hill and ran squelch squelch! down it again. Then came the muddiest, steepest, biggest, squelchiest and stoopiest down-hill I have ever recorded in the history of a little girl’s life. Toot, tootity toot! Then it was the muddiest, steepest, biggest, squelchest and stoopiest up-hill.

After a big, squelchy  day of going up and down hills, it was choo-choo-train-time. Relax at last – Robert, relax at last!” Gasped William, squeezing Robert’s arm as if it was a dog. “Yahh-yah!” Squealed Robert, shaking William’s head like mad. “Bother and blast! I loved that hike -” But then I noticed, I was talking to Barry, the Cubs leader, not William or Robert.

At the end of the train-ride, we walked down a path and waited in the car-park. Then Mummy and Andy drove up and we went home.
