Weekend in Oxford and meeting my sister’s boyfriend!

Last weekend was a really busy one for us. On Saturday morning, I had my drama lesson, in which I was given another role in our play. The role is called ‘heartbroken influencer’ – I have to sob over a breakup while pretending to apply designer makeup, in an effort to make my ex regret what he’s done. Definitely nothing like me as a person, but I suppose that’s what acting is all about! 😂

After drama, my mum and I drove down to my nan’s house to stay the night. We actually had dinner with my stepdad Andy who lives near my nan, so it was really nice to see him and my stepbrother William for a bit. Afterwards, we had a nice catch up with nanny before getting an early night’s sleep ahead of a busy long weekend.

Bright and early on Sunday morning, the three of us drove up to Oxford to see my sister and meet her boyfriend, Jasper. We got the Park & Ride bus into the city centre and were met there by Tilly and Jasper. On the walk to Tilly’s accommodation at Magdalen College we all had a nice chat together. Jasper was really nice, and I could see he was the perfect match for my sister! He’s also very interested in politics and is actually about to start his History & Politics degree at Cambridge this October – so I have a bit of a politics buddy now 🙂

We had planned to go out for dinner together, but towards the end of the evening Tilly got a really bad headache so we decided to order some pizza instead. It’d been absolutely ages since I’d had takeaway pizza so it was actually a nice treat! 😅 We got ham and pineapple (I know now that I am definitely NOT a pineapple-on-pizza person), cheese and tomato, and nduja sausage pizzas.

I think the smell of pizza quickly revived Tilly, because she was soon feeling much better and in the mood to come to our (my, my mum’s and nan’s) Travelodge room to try on some clothes my mum had brought for her. While she gave us all a mini fashion show, Jasper and I exchanged some politics memes and tried and failed to find something interesting on the TV at eleven o’clock on a Sunday night.

Clothes all tried on, my mum and I drove Tilly and Jasper back to her accommodation, before ourselves driving back to the Travelodge. It was a lot of buses and taxis and cars that day! It must have been 1 a.m. before I was in bed ready to go to sleep, and it didn’t take me long at all to do so 😅

The next day, after a nice lie-in, I was scrolling mindlessly on my phone in bed at 9.45 when my mum informed me that our 24-hour parking ticket expired at 9.56. That gave us 10 minutes to get Nanny up in the next room, shower, get dressed, do our makeup, pack up, and lug all our overnight bags and the boxes of clothes Tilly tried on down three flights of stairs and into the car and drive off. Needless to say we didn’t manage it, but we haven’t heard anything from the ticket people yet so 😅

At this point Nanny got the bus home, as she was understandably quite exhausted form it all. My mum and I drove back into central Oxford once more to have a quick lunch with Tilly and Jasper in the Magdalen dining hall. We had spaghetti bolognese which I must admit was a little underwhelming – I guess canteen food is canteen food, whether you’re at Oxford or not!

Tilly had a lecture that afternoon that her boyfriend and I decided to tag along to. I actually had to sort of sneak in, because under-18s technically aren’t allowed. It was such an interesting lecture – more linguistics than literature, which is just as well because I’ve been toying with the idea of doing a degree in PPL (philosophy, psychology and linguistics).

Tilly had a lot of work to get on with afterwards, so my mum and I left then. I had a really lovely weekend and it was great to meet Jasper for the first time and see Tilly. Now time to catch up on all the work I’ve been missing!!
