A few days ago William, Mummy, Tilly and I went on a ‘surprise journey’ to Hughenden Manor, home of the first Jewish prime minister of England, Benjamin Disraeli. Before we went in the house we went for a walk round the woods that surrounded it, which are part of the Chiltons. The pamphlet said it would take about 2 hours, but Mummy said, “Oh, no it won’t! Come on, pick up the pace!” But it ended up being over 2 hours after all. However, it was all right because although quite tough and often uphill, it was a very pretty hike.
After the woodland walk, we went to the house and its grounds. The grounds were mainly the forest, but there was still quite a few gardens to explore. We went through the kitchen, walled, flower, and herb gardens. The house was huge, with loads of different rooms and floors and secret stairways. There were lots of paintings everywhere of the Disraeli generation.
Although it was very pretty, I thought Hughenden was a bit boring and not one of my favourite stately homes. And it was an hour away as well. But on the whole it was still fun!
