300 was based on a comic book about the Battle of Thermopylae, so it was filmed very theatrically with slow-mo sections, short and sweet battle scenes and louder, more dramatic parts to create that comic book effect. It was actually really well done in that sense, but being inspired by a comic also tends to mean that it can’t be too accurate of a film, and it certainly wasn’t and nor was it meant to be (suffice to say, there were ogres). It’s a heavily stylised, engaging and certainly very violent film, but there are of course those ever-present corny scenes and the apparently necessary representation of those annoying “strong female leads”.
