Starring: Matthew McConaughey, Sandra Bullock, Samuel L. Jackson, Donald Sutherland, Kevin Spacey
This film wasn’t a true story, but was based on a book by John Grisham.
It centred on the trial of Carl Hailey (Samuel L. Jackson), a black American man who fatally shot two men after they raped and attempted to murder his 10-year-old daughter. It’s 1980s Mississippi, and Hailey’s chances are not looking good as a contemptuous all-white jury rolls into the courtroom. It’s up to his lawyer Brigance (Matthew McConaughey) and Brigance’s impromptu assistant Roark (Sandra Bullock) to ensure justice is served for Hailey.
