I find most of Shakespeare’s plays quite difficult, and I felt this one was like that especially, because it had a slightly complicated plot. Basically there is a king called Lear who has three daughters called Regan, Goneril and Cordelia. He is very old and he believes he will die soon; so he decides what parts of his kingdom his daughters will have when he passes away. To do this he asks each of his daughters how much they love him. Goneril and Regan say their hearts are filled with love only for him; but Cordelia says that if so, surely they must not be true to their husbands? Or their children, if they have them? Lear takes this differently though, and soon enough, she is disowned by the king. She goes to marry the king of France and is not introduced again until the end of the play.

However, there is another plot; Gloucester and his illegitimate and non-illegitimate sons Edmund and Edgar are making an interest in the play…
