This book was a short collection of Hans C. Anderson’s most popular tales. I found myself most intrigued in Thumbelina, and also the one about the tin soldier who escaped in a paper boat. I thought that what made the book most charming was its series of beautifully drawn illustrations, which I thought were so old-fashioned and amazingly done that this was just the sort of book I would love to buy. I said to my mother, ‘This is my favourite picture. Wait, and this one. Oh, look at this one! Do you like that one? I have three favourites. Look at this! Four, now’ because they were all so brilliant! I would definitely read some of the tales again.
