Young Matthias Mouse has long dreamed to be like the famous symbol of the Redwall Abbey he was a monk of, and that human relic was the long-dead Martin the Warrior. Martin had gone on many missions with his shield, sword and sheath; all of which being famously lost. The only way that young Matthias thought he could become so known throughout Mossflower was to find the three items.
But, of course, there are enemies and evils stopping him! Evil rat Cluny the Scourge wants to conquer the abbey for himself, and not only the one-eyed, vicious character is stopping Matthias from finding the sword, but so is King Bull Sparra of the Sparrow tribe, and not to forget, third-most-important character Asmodeus the Giant Adder.
Wow. I loved this book so much! I thought how it was written was wonderful, the plot was wonderful, and the dialogue and description were to. I thought all the characters were very fascinating, because even though they were all mice, badgers, squirrels, or other woodland creatures of not much interest, they had the most funny personalities and all that! My favourite character was Basil Hare, mainly because he was so funny but courageous and loyal as well. He even went to the river one day, so he said, to christen himself Basil ‘Stag’ Hare, because stags were much more dignified creatures than he. It sounded quite silly when I read the blurb, all about the mice and the sparrows and the evil rat with the pathetic name, but actually it was a really old-fashioned, perfect-for-me, gory but great book.
