This book was a nice easy-read, though very captivating and well-written so that it was still interesting to go through. For me I thought that, although a very nice read, the plot was a little too much. First a little boy, Alec Ramsay, gets shipwrecked on the way back to his home in New York; a huge, wild, stallion helps him swim to an island where they stay, slowly starving together. Then, all of a sudden, there is a fire on the island, and moments later Alec is rescued, along with the big black horse. Then, Alec finds his parents back in New York and soon befriends a short old man, formerly a jockey riding on top of the famous, now sadly dead, Chang. The old man, Henry, and his friend, Jake, manage to get Alec into a race, riding the Black against the supposedly two fastest horses in the world, Sun Raider and Cyclone. The Black beats them both, and Alec is soon extremely famous.
However ‘much’ the plot was, though, I enjoyed this book very much and may read the sequel soon.
