I thought this book was simply ‘ok’. Forging my review from the perspective of someone a bit younger than me and therefore more suited to the simplicity of the novel, I think it was written fairly well and had a fair, but somehow lacking, plot. It is about a homeless girl “called” Brat living in the 1200s or so, who is taken in by a midwife and learns to be her apprentice. She struggles with themes of belonging and home, running away and coming back, failing and giving up and trying again.
She went down the path from the manor, stopping every few steps to turn and wave until finally the path curved and Edward was lost from sight and all she could see was the way ahead.
