The Prince and the Pauper

Rating: 4/5

Prince Edward VI and pauper-boy Tom Canty swap clothes for a bit of fun. But when the Prince marches outside in Tom’s rags and begins to order people about, he is mocked and scorned and mistaken for the peasant boy. Of course, back in the palace, Tom is mistaken for Edward Prince of Wales! No matter how hard he tries, bewildered Tom Canty is simply diagnosed with a temporary insanity, and the prince is thrown into the squalor of Offal Court from whence the pauper came. And from there, everything goes downhill.

I really enjoyed this book. I think Mark Twain was an excellent writer with an excellent idea. It was funny, interesting, and informative, too. Of course, the book was written quite a long time ago, in the 1880s, meaning that Twain’s huge vocabulary sometimes got the better of me! 😉
