I thought this book was okay, a little boring at the beginning maybe, with random good parts, okay parts, and not so good parts. I think that it was a sort of side-book to some of the older, trickier books I read usually. It was all about Doctor John Dolittle (M.D.!), who loved animals so much that he soon got poorer and poorer trying to feed them all and buy new ones. He also got poorer because so many of his patients kept sitting on his hedgehogs, or get ‘attacked’ by his ducks in their effort to sit on the patients’ laps. Then the patients did not come to see the doctor, and he had to change his job.
But what to? Well, his parrot, Polynesia, taught him how to speak all the different animal languages, and he became a very, very well-known vet, who was able to speak to all his animal patients and find out what was really wrong with them, and not just what their masters or parents thought was.
Read The Story of Docter Dolittle to get involved in his adventures with pirates, monkeys, and kings.
