Week #20, 17 – 23 May 2021

Monday

Today, I somehow managed to worm out of doing any maths or physics at all. Instead, I did a bit more of my analysis on Euripides’ Medea, and started a Massolit course on it with an Oxford researcher called Dr Lucy Jackson. She was really engaging and had a lot of interesting things to say about the play that I hadn’t thought of yet.

In the afternoon, I had a swimming lesson, where we focused on backstroke (my favourite stroke, so that’s good!) and butterfly (which is absolutely not my favourite stroke). My swimming lessons are definitely something I look forward to, as it’s the only time in the week that I get to see my friends really (we were seeing them practically every day before lockdown! 😒).

Tuesday

I still didn’t do any maths or physics today either, but instead finished off my analysis of Medea (which you can read on this blog now!) and the Massolit course. Also, my mum and I finally finished the first Latin to OCR GCSE book! Well, I say finally – it actually only took us 2 months to do the whole thing, which is pretty good going. We’ve now just got a few passages to do that weren’t in the book to consolidate, and then we’re onto Volume 2!

In the evening, I had a physics lesson with Dave in which I understood absolutely nothing because he decided to go onto A-Level physics for some reason even though I haven’t even done GCSE physics yet! 😰 But what parts I could have understood I did, because he’s a very very very good teacher.

Wednesday

This morning, my mum and I did some of the extra Latin stories, so we’ll be all set to move onto Volume 2 of Latin to GCSE by maybe Friday or Monday! Then I spent a lot of the afternoon adding a couple of new bits to my Medea analysis, and doing piano and violin practice. My blog is still under construction, but with all these news categories we’re making, I hope to write up some separate posts about music practice etc so you can see exactly what it is I’m doing! 🙂

Some of my Latin work this week.

Thursday

This morning, I finished the (extremely boring!) Simple/Compound Interest and Decay topic in maths. I also started reading Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein (the original 1818 version!). However, I didn’t get very far through, because I soon decided to make a chickpea curry so it would be ready when Tilly came back from college ☺

Friday

In physics today, I moved on a little in the Waves topic, and learnt a bit about the electromagnetic spectrum. It’s all very confusing stuff though, so I reckon I will need a fair bit of time to complete – and fully understand – this unit on Waves! In maths, I did some percentages problems, something we covered in my maths lesson with Niall yesterday.

In the evening, Andy and I discovered a new video game that was a bit l ike Tetris. It’s a new favourite now – and it’s educational 😉

Weekend

Over the weekend, I spent a lot of time with Andy playing that Tetris game, doing yoga with Tilly and watching a new documentary called Wild China. I also started drawing the Cigarette Smoking Man from The X-Files, something which I’d attempted and failed at before! Hopefully this drawing goes a bit better.
