Week #22, 31 May – 06 June 2021

Monday

Today was the beginning of the half term, so I didn’t have a swimming lesson or a maths session with Damian in the evening. However, I still had a piano lesson, in which I made some progress on Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata and learnt some new songs for my Grade 5 work. After I came home, I watched some YouTube videos on Waves, one of my GCSE physics topics.

After lunch, I finished off The Trojan Women by Euripides – certainly one of my favourites of his. I wrote a quick plot summary of both that and Hippolytus, which I finished a few days ago, and then did my violin practice for the day. I also picked up my English Year 9 textbook again and answered some questions about passages on the Korean War.

Tuesday

This morning, I revised the chapter on fractions in maths, doing the questions at the end of every exercise that tend to be harder. In physics, I watched some more videos on the electromagnetic spectrum and the properties of transverse and longitudinal waves. There were even some Crash Course videos on it (Crash Course is made by the hosts of my favourite podcast, Dear Hank & John!).

In the afternoon, William and I went outside for a bit to eat ice cream in the boiling summer heat! Then I did a few lessons out of my Writing With Skill, in which I had to essentially reverse a positive description of someone (Isaac Newton, in fact!) and make it into a negative word by replacing words and the tone of the writing.

Wednesday

As it’s a Wednesday, I didn’t have maths or physics today. Instead, I got up to date on some film reviews (we’ve been watching a lot of films recently!), and also read some Atlas Shrugged and did a lot of music theory – something I’m quickly getting behind on! In the afternoon, Tilly came back from Nanny’s house (she’s been there since Sunday to allow room here for William), and we all did some aerobics together in the lounge!

Thursday

This morning, I did some more on electromagnetism in physsics. I’ve done so much on this one topic because there is just such a lot to remember, from where the different radiation types go on the graph, to what their individual frequencies and wavelengths are, to remembering the names of so many different types, to their benefits and the dangers of using each one, to knowing the exact and often very small differences between the kinds… I could go on. It’s very confusing!

I then did my music practice for the day and picked up poetry again. I used to know over 50 poems off by heart, but then fell out of practice and I can’t remember them as well anymore. It was nice to pick it up again and see how much I can remember, and how many more beautiful poems there are left to learn!

Friday

This morning, I did some more revision on the electromagnetic spectrum, particularly gamma radiation and X-rays and how we can use them to our advantage in medicine, but also their drawbacks and the dangers of using them in too great amounts.

In the afternoon, my mum and I started the next book in the OCR Latin to GCSE series! So far, in the first book of the series, we’ve covered the present (“I walk”), pluperfect (“I had walked”), future (“I will walk”), imperfect (“I was walking”) and perfect (“I walked”) tenses, and there are many more to come!

We also watched the next episode of Wild China, and found out that we’re going to stay with my dad for a week later in the month! We haven’t seen him in years so Tilly and I are both super excited.

Weekend

On Saturday, Tilly and I did a mini photo shoot with each other! Then I did my violin practice and listened to multiple episodes of Dear Hank & John. On Sunday, I spent a lot of time writing my story, but the majority of the day was taken up drawing another picture of Amy Winehouse!
