Monday
I had a violin lesson this morning, quickly followed by a walk before it got too hot! I did some physics as well, starting the next topic of reflection and refraction and Snell’s Law and all that, but that was all there was time for before lunch. In the afternoon, I had a swimming lesson at the leisure centre with my friends (I’ve been going for 5 years now and so have a lot of the others, so we all know each other well by now!), and Tilly went on a sleepover. She’ll be back tomorrow.
Tuesday
This morning, I moved onto a next topic in maths: iterative methods. It seemed to me to be a very long-winded and convoluted way of figuring out quadratic equations when there are already three different and much shorter methods for doing just that, but then I suppose that the problem with these GCSEs, isn’t it!
Afterwards, I did the second lecture in Elizabeth Vandiver’s course on Herodotus’ Histories, whoch focused on his contemporaries and predecessors and the evolution of narratives like his. Tilly came back in the evening and my mum and I finished a sports film called Miracle, starring Kurt Russell.
Wednesday
This morning, I met with one of my LLL students Charlie as a last-minute story-reading session! It’s been so long since I’ve seen him – so long, in fact, that he’s now 6, and he was the one reading the stories this time!
When I came home, I wrote up my notes on Book 1 of Herodotus’ Histories which I took from the Vandiver course I did yesterday and started listening to the actual account itself (I’m listening to an audiobook reading of it).
Thursday
This morning, I finished off the maths topic on iterative methods, and then worked through a bit more of the Latin book. I also listened to the next part of Book 1 of the Histories and typed up my notes in the form of a book-by-book analysis.
In the afternoon, I had a maths lesson with Niall (they’re back now after half term). We did some more work on factorising, the quadratic formula and completing the square.
Friday
I’m off to nanny’s today for the weekend! I’ll be going in the afternoon, so I had to fit as much studying as possible in the morning. I started off with maths, in which I did some more work on equations and, in particular, solving them using iterative methods. I then did some physics, in which I completely finished off the waves topic! I learnt about sound waves in particular and how to calculate their frequency and other properties from oscilloscope images.
