Monday
My piano lesson this morning was pushed back a little to half past ten, so there was time for a lovely walk in the sunshine before I had to go. I’ve been practising the original version of Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata (so not simplified at all). It’s such a beautiful song and I love playing it. When I got home, I did some music theory until lunch, which was a delicious halloumi and sweet potato salad!
After lunch, I finished the third book of Herodotus’ Histories and added to my Book-by-Book summary.
Tuesday
This morning, I worked a bit further through the Energy Resources & Transfer chapter in physics by watching some YouTube videos on it and doing some questions from all the hundreds of different textbooks we have. In the afternoon, I read the fourth book of the Histories and added a summary of it onto the end of my Book-by-Book summary. Herodotus can be boring sometimes, but he’s also very funny! When speaking of the customs of different cultures, he can sound contemptuous, incredulous, awed, sometimes even faintly amused, as though some of his own Ancient Greek customs weren’t just as outrageous. It really is quite amusing sometimes.
Wednesday
Wednesdays are humanities days for me, so I didn’t do any physics in the morning. Instead, I spent the whole morning reading Atlas Shrugged and going on a walk with my mum and sister. In the afternoon, we did an awful lot of Latin. We’d already learned what the passive and active participles were, so today we moved onto the imperfect, perfect and pluperfect variations of the participles. We also did conditionals using si (if) and nisi (unless).
In the evening, I had a Rangers session (Tilly doesn’t go anymore). It was extremely cold, as although we’d been told that with our numbers going inside would be fine covid-wise, some of the girls didn’t feel comfortable with that, so we had to sit outside in the cold and drizzle. I think it’s because I’m the only one who has refused to wear a mask, and now they’re all afraid that I’m some kind of disease-ridden virus factory. At one point, the girls were even talking about the coronavirus rules that are going to end(ish) on the 19th July; one complained that she was going to the theatre a few days after the 19th, saying that she was terrified of all the people on the train and in the theatre who wouldn’t be wearing masks. I say that if she’s so worried about catching this awful plague, maybe the answer isn’t forcing everyone else to wear masks, but perhaps postponing her trip to the theatre.
Thursday
I did some physics this morning, doing some more on the Energy unit. I learnt how to “save my family money, keep warm and reduce global warming.” Life skills.
After physics, I went upstairs on my big comfy bunk bed and read some of The Book Thief. I’ve read it once before, but decided to do so again, as there are often a lot of things that I miss the first time I read such a meaningful book that I notice the second time. Indeed, I have cottoned on to some beautiful metaphors, similes and themes which I didn’t before.
Friday
I did some physics today, watching YouTube videos on the topics I’d covered in the Energy unit of my textbook. William came in the afternoon (he stays every other weekend) so we did about one and a half hours of yoga! When I say yoga though, it’s more like doing weights, and things like sit-ups, squats, lunges, etc. It’s quite funny though when Tilly actually does do a yoga routine with us, because we get to pretend to be trees for a bit while listening to bath white noise tinkly sound things (chosen by moi) and Tilly saying, “Become one with the carpet.”
Weekend
Bright and early on Saturday morning, Tilly, William and I caught the train into Bedford to do some shopping and mooching-about. We got a delicious drink at Costa and a breakfast pastry at LIDL (😂) and then just wandered around a bit until Nanny caught the bus to join us at noon. We did some Primark shopping with her (Primark is her favourite shop) and then got some lunch and did more wandering around. Here are some photos of our fun little trip 🙂
On Sunday morning, we all played a game of Ticket to Ride at the table, and then a blender that my mum randomly bought on impulse yesterday arrived! It can do all sorts of things, so we made some scones in it that turned out to be really delicious.
