This week, I was doing a Senior Classics course with Academus.
I stayed at Nanny’s with Tilly this week to have a bit more peace and quiet while doing the classics course. We’ve been having some lovely long walks every day around the lake near Nanny’s house, but mainly I’ve just been on this course all day so not too much has happened! I did start watching a new TV show on Netflix called Unorthodox, which I’m enjoying so far. It’s about a girl who escapes from a Hasidic community in New York to avoid an arranged marriage. I’ve only watched a couple of episodes but I really like the acting and I think it’s written very well too, though some parts are a bit boring and I’m not sure if I’ll get through the whole thing!
Weekend update: I didn’t! It was all very well and good when she was dramatically escaping from an arranged marriage, but then she moves to Berlin and tries to join a music school and completely overreacts when someone tells her that she isn’t good enough, and it just descended into boring cheesiness, so unfortunately I had to abandon that one.
We got home from Nanny’s on Friday after my course finished. I started a new TV series that Andy recommended called The Staircase. It’s about the trial of author Michael Peterson, who was accused of murdering his wife when she was found dead at the bottom of the staircase. It’s an interesting series because it was filmed directly after the crime was committed, so all the meetings between defence lawyers, analysts, forensic scientists, etc. were all recorded and put in this documentary, so you can kind of solve the crime while the lawyers do. I really like it and much prefer it to Unorthodox! I’m a few episodes in, and so far – though my opinion is liable to change – I think that he did it. 🧐
