Week #7, 14 – 20 February 2022

Monday

Today in biology, I learnt more about the biological effects of smoking, and how oxygen and carbon dioxide are transferred in the lungs. In Latin, I completed Chapter 4 of the first Latin book. I’m much more nervous about Latin than I am biology, as there are just so many tenses and tables to learn.

William and I made some delicious chocolate chip and flame raisin cookies!

Tuesday

I moved on today in biology to learning about why organisms need transport systems (and why some don’t), and the role of xylem and phloem tubes in plants (the stringy bits of celery!). Of course, we’d eaten all yesterday’s cookies, so William and I made some more 😅🍪 Then my mum and I made a really scrummy cauliflower cheese dish for dinner.

Wednesday

I’ve just been following the same routine for the past couple of weeks now: a few hours of biology and Latin in the morning, followed by instrument practice and music theory in the afternoon, reading and story-writing and bullet journal-ing with Tilly in the evening.

Thursday

But on Thursday, I took a break from studying to go to London with Tilly and some more of her college friends. We got chickpea curry, aloo saag and samosas for lunch, then wondered around Camden Market which was really fun. Amy Winehouse, one of my favourite singers, lived in Camden, so there were a lot of tributes to her in the form of murals and portraits you could buy. Indeed, I was particularly fascinated by the art stalls, and took hundreds of photos! 😅 They aren’t great angles though, because the stalls were so small and crowded so I was stumbling over things to try and get a photo.

Sunday

On Sunday, we went to London again, to see the opera again! This time it was The Cunning Little Vixen, a sort of slightly more modern (I think it was written in the 20s) comedy one. I think I preferred the more traditional, older La Boheme though – and The Cunning Little Vixen had also been edited to appeal to modern times, and by that I mean every character was a raging feminist and anyone sitting on a comfortable chair was a greedy capitalist.

But before the opera, we went shopping for a good few hours. We went to my favourite tea and hot chocolate shop, Whittards of Chelsea (definitely not to just feast on all their samples), and to a load of bookshops, stationary shops and more. All this we found at Covent Garden Market, which we didn’t know existed but was very pretty! There were magicians and ventriloquists and acrobats putting on performances too which really contributed to the bustling market atmosphere.

After the opera, we went to Zizzi, where we shared an enormous calzone and pizza for dinner followed by dessert! I had a salted caramel chocolate brownie with chocolate sauce and ice cream, and Tilly had tiramisu 😳😋
